GT-541 Cookbook: Troubleshooting

*** Last Update 10/10/07 ***

Maintenance:
A warning "Cap/Wiper Clean" blinks.
This warning shows after Yellow Ink Cartridge Empty (error) is displayed. This message indicates a new cartridge needs to be inserted and the Wiper Cleaner should be replaced. Also indicating the Print Head Caps and Wiper Blade should be cleaned.

Recently, because Black Ink consumption is bigger than Yellow, the Wiper Cleaning Kit is attached to Black Ink Cartridge. Please clear the warning status with the following steps.

1) Select [ Menu ] > [ Maintenance ] > [ Cap/Wiper Clean ] on the Control Panel.
2) Turn off the printer as shown on the display.
3) Open the Front Cover and check the inside. If necessary, clean the printer.
4) Turn on the printer.

Power:
GT-541 won't turn on.
Confirm the outlet and the cable first.

Application:
I used CorelDRAW 11 on Windows 2000, and tiled a little peace of BMP images all over the maximum print size (14"x16"). But I found some images at the bottom were missing in print data. Why?
Sorry, this kind of problem depends on your PC condition and application(s). The image data has already missing before Printer Driver received the image data. Our advice is to upgrade your application, or OS, or make your image smaller.

When I warped a rather big text object and printed, but found the latter outlines of the text were missing. Filling colors were fine. Why? I use CorelDRAW 12.
With CorelDRAW 12 & 11 and also with "Envelop" effects, long strings of letters sometimes fail to print their outlines. The "Missing Outline" trouble seems to depend on how many letters they use, how curved the envelop effects are, and which font they choose, curvy or not. The same trouble may occur in "Fitting Text Around a Path". To avoid this, convert to bitmap or rasterization is necessary before print. Jump the Note at the end of the CorelDRAW page and avoid your risk of misprint.

This problem no longer occurs with CorelDRAW X3. (July 2006 Updated)

Colors:
After the first print, I found that I wanted stronger colors.
Surely you can edit images with your application, but there is a good menu on Printer Driver: Vivid Processing and Double Printing. Better to do test print first and do not do too much.

Something is wrong with my Yellow (with red or blue dots in) and Purple (dull and grayish). I'm afraid Black is not rich enough.
This serious trouble depends on which color space is used and which palette is/are used with the artwork.

First of all, to understand and manage digital printing more, refer to TIPS of Color Matching and If CMYK pages. These pages are only an introduction, but they will give you great hints for your job.

If you are a designer and CorelDRAW user, the answer is rather easy: do proper color settings and DO NOT use Pantone® or other "ink" color palettes to fill in the objects. Our Color Platte for Color Chart is available in Install CD. X3 is updated. Users of 12 or former versions click here.
If you are not a designer but CorelDRAW user, please visit CorelDRAW page and also use Vivid Proessing in Printer Driver Menu. Also refer to Artwork that your customers bring page.

If you are a designer and Adobe user, please make your artwork in RGB like Web designs. Set the document color space in RGB and DO NOT use use Pantone® or other "ink" color palettes to fill in the objects. With Photoshop, you can have our Color Palette for Color Chart in Install CD. Refer to TIPS of Color Matching and If CMYK pages and see how yellow goes dull and dotted.

If you are not a designer but Adobe user, set the color space in RGB first and change the vector data to bitmap. Then you can retouch the artwork with tone curve, color balance, etc. Or use Vivid Proessing in Printer Driver Menu. Also refer to Artwork that your customers bring page. Try it to get better T-shirt.

Print Quality: Try head-cleaning
Some white lines occur on the print, the printed artwork looks pale.
Colos of the first print and the last one are different. The last one is rather weaker.
There may be some air bubbles in the head nozzle or something sticks on the surface of it. Push Head Cleaning button on the operation panel to clean heads. If you print Nozzle Check Pattern in Test Print menu (both in GT-541 Test Print menu and in Printer Driver Utility window) and print it and find out which color has troubles. Clean the specific color by pushing Menu button and select [ Head Cleaning ] > [ Normal ] > and color you need. As for the details, refer to the Instruction Manual.

Also GT-541 does automatic head-cleaning once in 24 prints (default) and two-hour-leave from the last print. Take care of the print and check if you'd better do head-cleaning or not. This is the best way to have a beautiful print.

Ink seems to bleed and splash.
First, check if the Ink Volume is fit for the material. See Ink Volume and Materials of garment and adjust the Ink Volume.

Or there may be a sign to start misfiring (white line) because of air bubbles in the head nozzle or something sticks on the surface of it. Do Head Cleaning.

There is another reason. If the room temperature is too hot or the air is too dry, the heads sometimes cannot drop ink properly because the change of ink density. Operate GT-541 under the moderate condition.

I did head-cleaning, but I cannot get out the troubles above.
Change Wiper Cleaner everytime you set a new Yellow ink cartridge? Turn off the printer, open the front cover and change it to a new one. See Basic Operation Manual for each operation.

Print button won't work. Red LED is ON.
Check the message of STATUS/MENU LCD and find out what the printer wants you to do next. Check the number by the manual.
Your controlling PC receives the same error if connected with USB cable. See Utility window and check the status. Refer to the Tour to Printer Driver.)

PC troubles:
I can't make print data file.
Choose the printer as Brother GT-541 FileOutput instead of using application menu.

The print data won't be received. The controlling PC says that GT-541 is offline.
Check the connector. If USB cable is used, pull off once and again connect. Often it works again.
