GT-541 Cookbook: Corel DRAW™ 10/11/12
How to Print Your Artwork

*Refer to the Instruction Manual (PDF).

Color Management Settings

1.

This is the most important settings for colors.
Start CorelDRAW and select [ Tools ] > [ Color Management ] menu.

2.

Select [ Color Management Off ] of the Style menu and all the orange arrows turns gray (OFF). This means "CorelDRAW will do nothing with color management. Each device, in this case GT-541 printer driver, will manage colors instead."

When the orange arrow from the center to Monitor (center bottom) is off, the colors on the monitor sometimes change brighter. This change is only for monitor matching, which has no influence on print data.

Layout the artwork: Set the paper size 14"x16" first.
There are two ways to set the size.

a.

Change the paper size [ Custom ] and rewrite the width as 14.0" and the length as 16.0" as shown below.

b-1.

The other way is to select the printer and to use printer information.

Select the printer and deside the size of the layout area.
Select [ File ] > [ Print Setup... ] menu.

b-2.

Select the printer [ Name ] Brother GT-541 (FileOutput) and click [ Properties ] button to confirm the settings.

b-3.

Select [ Layout ] > [ Page Setup ] menu to arrange the artwork on the platen of the GT-541.

b-4.

Click [ Set From Printer ] button on the window and confirm that the [ Paper ] menu turns to [ Custom ] , Width (14" or 355.6mm) and Height (16" or 406.4mm) below. When you come back to the main window, the paper size turns into a Platen size (14"x16") and you can arrange the actual print location and size of artwork on the window.

Drawing

1.

When you start drawing, use Default RGB palette. Default CMYK palette is OK if your color settings above is proper. but we recommend RGB palette because GT-541 is simply a RGB printer.
Or Color Palette that we provide: GT-541_Colors.cpl is available in Install CD. This color palette includes all the colors of Color Chart in Test Data of Printer Driver Utility menu.

CAUTION:
Do not use HKS, Pantone and other spot color palettes for GT-541, because those spot colors are treated "special" for screenprinting color separation (remember you can print each color by print menu). GT-541 Printer Driver cannot deal with these information in color matching.

2.

Select the [ Window ] > [ Color Palette ] > [ Open palette ] menu. The following locations are the default. Better to copy GT-541_Colors.clp beforehand in the folder below:

CorelDRAW 10: C:\Program Files\Corel\Graphics10\Custom\Palettes\
CorelDRAW 11: C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel Graphics 11\Custom Data\Palettes\
CorelDRAW 12: C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel Graphics 12\Languages\EN\Custom Data\Palettes\

3.

Select the palette you need, that is "GT-541_colors.cpl". Then the palette is ready at the right end of the window.

Convert to Bitmap

If you want to add some effects, i.g. stronger colors, to the vector object, you will convert the data to Bitmap. In this case, convert to RGB Bitmap as follows.

1.

Select [ Bitmaps ] > [ Convert to Bitmap... ] menu.

2.

Select [ Color ] as [ RGB Color (24-bit) ] and click [ OK ]. Do not check [ Apply ICC profile ] even if the color management settings of Step are correct.

Change colors

Using [ Effect ] menu on the tool bar, you can change brightness/contrast/intensity of the image when the image is bitmap.

Or select [ Effects ] > [ Tone Curve ... ] and confirm first that the Channel is [ RGB Channels ]. Click the point on the line and move. If the line goes down as shown below, the image turns stronger and use more ink. If the line goes up, the image turns lighter and use less ink. Click the [ Preview ] buttun to confirm.

As for the details, refer to the CorelDRAW manual. There are many ways to arrange the image. Try and find the best way with CorelDRAW.

These are helpful with previewing the image. But there is a very easy way to do. Use Printer Driver "Vivid Processing" menu.

Print the artwork

1.

Select [ File ] and [ Print ... ] menu.

2.

Before printing, click the [ Properties... ] button to confirm if the printer driver settings are as you expect. Click the [ Print ] button the print data will be sent to the GT-541. Refer to the Know Printer Driver for further information.

If you haven't set the [ Paper ] size in Step -4, this window will appear. Click [ No ] button and cancel the [ Print ] menu. Then go back to Step -3 to make the settings. If you click [ Yes ], the artwork will print on the middle center of the platen, against your will.

Notice:

The platen size may become 14x16 inches when pressing Set From Printer, even after setting the size of 10x12 inches at gDocument Propertiesh dialog box of printer driver. To make print data in platen size of 10x12 inches, set Width : 10 inches, Height : 12 inches.

If the print data file is not saved from the printer driver menu but application menu, the extension of the print data is ".prn" although you added .arp. Before you use Ts-Quick to print, change the extension to ".arp" manually.

There are some cases reported that outline colors of curved texts (often by Envelop Effects) are not fully printed.

In those cases, convert the text object into Bitmap before you print or check "Rasterize entire page (DPI)" checkbox in [ Misc ] tag of [ Print ] menu as shown in below. The default DPI is 400, but 200-300 dpi will be enough to save time.

We strongly recommend using FileOutput printer driver and File Viewer regularly not to produce misprint and waste your money.      (Feb. 2006 Updated)
