GT-541 Cookbook: Materials of garments

*** Cotton, Linen, Rayon, Silk, Polyester, Polyurethane, Acrylic etc. etc. ***

The one of attractive things about this printer is that it can print on almost any kind of fabrics, except for those that cannot be ironed. Although it is specified to fix the printed artwork at 356ºF (180ºC) for 35 seconds, it can be fixed at lower temperature as long as the ink is sufficiently cured. However, just leaving in the room after printing will not fix the artwork on the T-shirt.

This ink is specially developed for 100% cotton T-shirts and the ink volume is adjusted for printing T-shirts that are made of heavyweight 100% cotton fabrics such as Hanes® and Fruitsoftheloom®, you can print on thinner fabric or blended fabrics by setting optimum ink volume. The following explains how to control with the printer driver, and rough standard for ink volume. Please note that the following setting in the printer driver is nothing more than just the standard. The bleeding and color development are influenced not only by the material of the fabrics but also the weaves of the fabrics and even the room temperature. So we strongly recommend you to do test print before the actual printing.

Test Print
There is the menu at the bottom of the Printer Driver's Main Setting.
Clicking will send the test pattern to GT-541. Here is the data.
The data on the left which says m8n at the bottom is No Adjustment, the default standard for heavy weight T-shirts, the maximum. Print this test pattern and find out the best index of the ink volume to get minimum blurs and maximum colors. The number underneath of the acceptable test pattern is the Custom index of ink volume. You can either directory enter the value in the box next to the button or move the slide bar.

Standard index based on materials, thickness, and weaves
The followings are "temporary standard indices" we have set based on the test result of a few samples we have. But again, the thickness of the fabric and the material are not the only factors that influences the quality of the printing. The colors of the design also affect the quality as 4 colors of ink are mixed to produce different colors. For example, yellow color only uses Yellow ink, red color uses Magenta and Yellow ink together, so as green color by Yellow and Cyan ink. There will be more ink jetted to print red and green than printing yellow. So please, try the test pattern first before starting actual printing, if possible.
