Note:
CorelDRAW X3 GRAPHICS SUITE is newly released in 2006. There seems to be quite a few changes in
color management, and also some of the troubles including "missing outline" are gone. If you have new
CorelDRAW, read this through and please update yourself.
As for general information, refer to CorelDRAW Help and Instruction Manual(PDF).

Color Management Settings
1. |
This is the basic and most important settings for colors.
Start CorelDRAW and select [ Tools ] > [ Color Management ] menu.
The small window image is the default settings.
2. |
Select
RGB radio button. Check the left top menu: it changes [default settings] to [ Custom (Current settins
not saved)]. Also click the orange arrow from [ Generic CMYK printer profile ] to [ Generic Profile
] and make it gray and broken as shown below.
Layout and Print size : Set the paper size 14"x16" first. There
are two ways (a, b) to do.
a.
Change the paper size [ Custom ] and rewrite the width as 14.0" and the length as 16.0" as shown below.
b. |
1. |
Select the printer first to get printer information. If GT-541 is your default printer, skip it.
Select [ File ] > [ Print Setup... ] menu. Select the printer [ Name ] Brother GT-541 (or FileOutput).
2. |
Second, select [ Layout ] > [ Page Setup ] menu. Click the marked button [ Set From Printer ] to get
information from GT-541.
Confirm that the [ Paper ] menu turns to [ Custom ] , Width (14" or 355.6mm) and Height (16"
or 406.4mm) below. When you come back to the main window, the paper size turns into a Platen size (14"x16")
and you can arrange the actual print location and size of artwork on the window.
Save Settings As Default
After Color Settings and Page Layout are set, select [ Tool ] and [ Save Settings As Default ]. |
Color Palette in Drawing
CorelDRAW's default palette is CMYK palette. When color settings above is proper, it would be ok, but
we recommend RGB palette because GT-541 is simply a RGB printer.
And GT-541_Colors.cpl is available in Install CD: its colors
are in Color Chart in Test Data of Printer Driver Utility
menu. Print Color Chart and pick up your favorite colors from our color palette.
1. |
Select the [ Window ] > [ Color Palette ] menu. click [ Default RGB palette ] checked and click [ Default
CMYK palette ] and other [ "ink" palettes ] unchecked.
Do not use HKS, Pantone®
and other spot color palettes for GT-541, because those spot colors are treated "special"
for screenprinting color separation (remember you can print each color by print menu). GT-541 Printer
Driver cannot deal with these information in color matching. If the image is filled with colors of those
palettes, it is better to refill with colors in GT-541_Colors.cpl or Default RGB palette instead, especially
in Yellow, Black, Purple.
New Yellow ink GC-51Y will be available soon. We are now preparing
the new Color Chart and Color Palette for new ink & profile. Watch our site and get the newest information.
(July, 2006)
2. |
Select the [ Window ] > [ Color Palette ] > [ Open palette ] menu (lower orange square). The following
locations are the default (in case that Windows system is in C drive). Better to copy
GT-541_Colors.clp beforehand in the folder below:
C:\Program Files\Corel\CorelDRAW Graphics Suite 13\Languages\EN\Custom Data\Palettes
3. |
Select the palette you need, that is "GT-541_colors.cpl". Then the palette is ready at the right end
of the window.
Convert to Bitmap |
If you want to add some effects, i.g. stronger colors, to the vector object, you will convert vector
data to Bitmap. In this case, convert to RGB Bitmap as follows.
1. |
Select [ Bitmaps ] > [ Convert to Bitmap... ] menu.
2. |
Select [ Color ] as [ RGB Color (24-bit) ] and click [ OK ]. In X3 case, keep [ Apply ICC profile ] checked
and the color looks natural. (In former versions, we strongly recommended to uncheck this menu,
otherwise the print output turned to be terrible.)
The resolution is enough in 200dpi.
Change colors in bitmap data (common in CorelDRAW 12) |
Using [ Effect ] menu on the tool bar, you can change brightness/contrast/intensity of the image when
the image is bitmap.
Or select [ Effects ] > [ Tone Curve ... ] and confirm first that the Channel is [ RGB Channels ]. Click
the point on the line and move. If the line goes down as shown below, the image turns stronger and use
more ink. If the line goes up, the image turns lighter and use less ink. Click the [ Preview ] buttun
to confirm.
As for the details, refer to the CorelDRAW manual. There are many ways to arrange the image. Try and
find the best way with CorelDRAW.
These are helpful with previewing the image. But there is a very easy way to do. Use Printer Driver
"Vivid Processing" menu.
Print artwork |
1. |
Select [ File ] and [ Print ... ] menu.
2. |
Before printing, click the [ Properties... ] button to confirm if the printer driver settings are as
you expect. Click the [ Print ] button the print data will be sent to the GT-541. Refer to the
Know Printer Driver for further information.
Check the rightmost tag says [ No Issues ].
If you haven't set the [ Paper ] size in Step
and the print image is within the print area, the layout is not what you wanted to be.
