GT-782 Cookbook: All About White Ink: Shake it!

********* White Ink : Shake your groove thing for good print *********

Just remember that white ink is just like "Liquid Paper®". You have to shake it and apply it with thick volume on the colored place. This metaphor will help you understand what should be done with white ink.

White ink must be shaken once a day before you start the job, after "White Retrieval" and before "Load White". Why? Simply because the white pigment (TiO2) is heavy and always sinks in slowly. The white ink keeps it's whitness while in use,if not used for more than 48 hours, ink must be shaken to insure that the white ink stays fresh.Ink itself keeps its whiteness while in regular use, but shake it to to keep it fresh.

The process of daily maintenance:

It takes about 15 minutes for the maintenance: 5 minutes for white ink retrieval (open the tube to move the ink back to the ink cartridge), a few minutes for shaking, and about 7 minutes for loading the white ink again. To mix the ink inside the tubes with ink inside the cartridge, refill the tube again. Load white is available when the white ink is "low" but pay attention to the print quality.

You do not have to do Initial Cleaning after White Retrieval or you will waste white ink
Do not load white ink directly into a dry tube. Load maintenance solution first by Initial head cleaning menu to load the white ink smoothly.

The following two photos are before/after the maintenance [ White Retrieval ] > shake cartridges > [ Load White ] on Monday morning. The left photo shows that all the nozzles of the four print heads are perfect but white ink is just like "water". The right photo shows that W1 head has some missing nozzles but the print is white enough. You can see the difference and how important the daily maintenance is.

After Auto head cleaningAfter "Load White"
Sometimes some nozzles are missing after Load White is done. This is because white ink is mixed with air while moving through the tube and the air bubbles around the nozzles sometimes block the ink flow. Originally the ink in the cartridge is degassed and normally all the air bubbles in the ink will disappear after 20 minutes or so, but you will have no time to wait. Check the firing with the nozzle check pattern and if the missing nozzles are separate, you do not have to do severe head cleaning. See the following nozzle check print and the whiteness check pattern 'whitenes.arp'. Because the GT-782 has 4 white print heads.

Do a head cleaning if you see "missing bands" (banding) in the nozzle check pattern W3 in the left photo below, or if you see the white/gray banding in the print (right photo).

The issue above was because of dirty wiper and too wet wiper cleaner. After cleaning and exchanging, everything was fine.

Go to Keep it page, clean the caps/wiper and replace wiper cleaner for print quality.
